Playpark Action Rothamsted Committee
(Registered charity number 1179147)
WHO WE ARE
PARC was established in July 2018 by a group of Harpenden parents and grandparents. PARC is a registered charity that aims to raise money to redesign and replace the town’s flagship playpark.
ABOUT THE PARK
The playpark is set in the heart of Harpenden’s Rothamsted Park.
The playpark itself was built more than 30 years ago and the equipment is outdated, in very poor condition and near to the end of life.
The current equipment includes both toddler and flat seat swings. However, a number have now been removed due to their poor condition.
The original helicopter and train climbing frames still stand in the park. The metal work is stripped of paint and they offer limited play.
The toddler slides stand alone and highlights the lack of equipment suitable for the younger age group.
The surfacing is inadequate, with the playpark getting incredibly muddy and leaving parts largely out of use in wet weather.
Through consultation with the public and the Playpark companies, PARC developed some preliminary designs. Following public feedback on those designs, the brief has been modified and a formal tender process will commence once we are closer to meeting our fundraising target. We are now working hard to raise awareness and raise funds to get the project off the ground.
Our fundraising target is £250 000 and we will need the support of residents and businesses alike to reach this figure. The creation of a flagship playground is a fantastic opportunity to get involved with a community project and we need the residents of Harpenden to get on board and support PARC!
We have recently introduced an exciting new fundraising initiative! To be part of history and add your name to the new playground, PARC is offering you the opportunity to recognise your donation with an engraved paving stone. The stone will form part of a commemorative pathway in the playground. Add your name or a message and see it in the park for years to come.
The pavers are available at: www.parkaid.org and range in price from £100 for a basic design to £2,500 for a corporate brick with your logo.
PARC is hopeful that with your support we will have funds in place to commence installation in 2020.
